In its fourth year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grants program supported 50 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2025. These are the 2025 recipient organizations’ stories of impact.
Homelessness is a growing issue throughout Douglas County, demanding a greater draw on resource services throughout the region. The issue is so demanding that local law enforcement set out to make their mark and help the unhoused to make a change.
The effort comes from the Douglas County Deputy Sheriff’s Foundation, the department’s community outreach and engagement effort. Pushing to promote things like the department’s Behavioral Health and Wellness Unit and crime reduction, the new push arose in 2024, when research indicated that 20 percent of the county’s jail population lives at or near homelessness.
Lozier Community Grant funding provided support toward hiring a part-time Homeless Outreach Coordinator, someone to work alongside law enforcement in engaging with and supporting the unhoused of the area. This civilian coordinator accompanies deputies on services calls, visits and engages with encampments and provides data to public and area stakeholders
