Thousands lined either side of Omaha’s North 24th Street Saturday, filling the neighborhood with cheers of celebration to commemorate Juneteenth.
Among the crowd were several dozen Lozier employees and family members, including partners from KC Store Fixtures, located in the former West Plant building near 23rd and Sahler streets. The group, marching alongside the Lozier van and decorated float, trekked from the parade’s start at 24th and Lake to Sprague Street, handing out candy and information about careers at Lozier.
First celebrated in Omaha in 1977, Juneteenth has become a staple of North Omaha celebrations, including the annual parade, community events and activities. The Nebraska Legislature commemorated Juneteenth as a statewide celebration starting in 2011.
