Lozier Community Grant Helps Made New Makerspace Provide Laptops for Any Learner

In its fourth year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grants program supported 50 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2025. These are the 2025 recipient organizations’ stories of impact.

Omaha’s Made New Makerspace is giving learners of all ages a place to build their abilities in STEM, no matter their background or upbringing.

The operation offers a variety of programs to give children and young adults access to the hardware needed to build abilities, improving their academic and professional prospects. One major effort for this is the Laptops for Learners program, providing refurbished computers to participants up to 24-years-old, all of whom are currently or formerly in the foster care system or come from a low-income setting.

“We want to set youth up so that when they leave our doors they are ready for their next adventure,” said Executive Director Jim Clements.

Computers are provided by area businesses, phased out from operation but still functional for an end-user. In addition, users are offered free internet access through cellular modems that are set up to prevent misuse by minors.

Lozier Community Grant funding went directly to the Laptops for Learners effort, bridging the gap in the digital divide for those young people.
