Lozier’s Omaha summer interns recently stepped away from their day-to-day work projects for an afternoon of creativity and connection at That Pottery Place. Thirteen interns spent Wednesday afternoon painting pottery, sharing conversations, and getting to know one another outside of the workplace.

While everyone created a unique piece to take home, the real focus of the outing was building relationships. Bringing together interns from different departments provided an opportunity to connect with peers they may not work with every day, exchange experiences, and strengthen the sense of community that is an important part of the Lozier internship experience.

Experiences like these help interns expand their professional networks, feel more connected to the organization, and create lasting memories alongside the skills and experience they’re gaining throughout the summer.

“It was so much fun to watch the interns get to know one another beyond their day-to-day work,” Senior Training & Development Specialist Julie Hamilton said. “They spent the afternoon talking about where they grew up, their college towns, favorite activities, and even laughing about the different ways they approached painting their pottery. Those shared experiences help create the sense of community we want every intern to feel.”

Lozier’s internship program aims to give the interns a structured mentorship experience, cross-functional job shadowing opportunities, and work related to their current academic programs. Along with teambuilding opportunities like Wednesday’s, interns will have an opportunity to volunteer together in a couple weeks.
